TARRYTOWN MARINA OPENS NEW RESTAURANT

The traditional fun restaurant that was always the mark of the Tarrytown Marina has returned with the opening of Barley on the Hudson, July 4th, 2017.

I took the opportunity to photograph many of the hundreds of visitors in just the first few days of its opening and can say, without a doubt, it is like the patio was never closed.

Mr. Weakley, I just finished reading your article In Boating On The Hudson Magazine and noticed your offer to answer questions. I have found a lot of conflicting information about the use of Gel-Coat. Even product manufactures seem to
vary in what they recommend. I recently made a small repair to my bow with West System epoxy, Interlux 2000E paint, gel-coat with surfacing wax, thinned with Acetone and sprayed with a Preval sprayer.

BOAT TALK WITH with Alex - July 2017

Question: My outdrive will not go up or down.

Answer: I am assuming it is a Mercury. There are more of them out there than any other brand!

First it could be a bad switch on the control panel, a bad fuse. There are sensors on the outdrive that could be bad, As boats get older, say ten years or more, the wires that activate the trim drive could be worn, or, if the boat is in salt water, the entire wiring harness may need to be replaced.

August 19, 2017 will see the first annual HRFA Catfish Chaos contest on the Hudson River.

Based at Billy Joe’s Rib Works beautiful huge deck in Newburgh, NY this one day contest will feature a $1000 dollar top prize with other catagories reaching out to ten places.

While the weigh station is busy accepting winning live catfish for weighin, other volunteers from the HRFA will be teaching children how to fish from the deck of Billy Joe’s Rib Works. The HRFA will provide rods and reels and bait for their education.

Steamboats, Fireworks & Farmers Markets!

Waterford’s annual Steamboat Meet is coming back to the harborfront on Saturday, July 1 with food, vendors, boat rides, and beautifully restored and maintained steamboats. Historic and interesting vessels will line the docks and mooring wall, with vendors stretching across the length of the canalside park from the “Battery” to Lock E-2 in the storied Waterford Flight, in front of the Waterford Harbor Visitors Center, at the entrance to the Erie Canal in upstate New York. The event runs from 10AM till dusk, followed by one of the best fireworks displays in upstate New York right overhead.
