I want to take this opportunity to thank all those, both members and spouses, who participated in the preparation and execution of the most successful River Day to date. In spite of the Elliott Way construction and competing events such as the Town of Cortlandt “Family Fun Day”, we realized the best attended event since its inception nine years ago.
The 2nd Annual Schuylerville Fall Festival: “Turning Leaves at the Turning Point”, will be held on Sunday, October 8 from 12:00-5:00 pm. Visitors are invited to this beautiful, historic, thriving downtown to experience the fun and excitement of this close-knit community. There will be a scavenger hunt for participants to follow to encourage them to visit their local businesses and engage with the business owners. Along the way you can enjoy street musicians and delicious local food vendors. Restaurants and store fronts will be open, and artists will be demonstrating their skills. Boaters are encouraged to dock at the Schuyler Yacht Basin for the weekend and enjoy
the shoreside events as well!
It was a beautiful, bright clear morning when I pulled into the huge parking lot of Cornetta’s Seafood Restaurant in Piermont, NY, (just below the Tappan Zee Bridge on the west shore) to find the “boys” unloading their “catch of the day” into their pickup truck.
“River Day” was created by the Croton Yacht Club to provide children and adults with a “hands on” grassroots experience as to what the Hudson River has to offer. The river, full of a huge assortment of fish, blue claw crabs and other species is dramatically presented under the tent erected on the grounds of the yacht club as well as by the Hudson River Fishermen’s Association volunteers.
Wrapping it up!
Shrink wrap- Shop around; there are many good mobile services available. Experience, quality of workmanship and materials is important. I have seen shrink wrap burned and melted on seats and repaired scorched gelcoat numerous times. Best to have white wrap! White will reflect sun light,
keeping your boat cooler.
When Insurance Is Not Required But Necessary
Insurance is required by lenders for home, property, car, boat and other tangible items in the
event they are involved in an incident where there is a total loss or damage to protect the lender’s interest. Leasing companies, landlords, Departments of Motor Vehicles, Marinas, equipment and car rental agencies require liability insurance in the event you cause bodily injury and/or property damage and they are drawn into a law suit.

Question: I have a 1988 Silverton Yacht with a Generator. The Generator has not worked since I bought the boat 3 years ago. No surprise, I was told, up front, that it did not run. My wife keeps bugging me so now I would like to see why it does not start! It cranks, but will not fire up, I tried ether, but that did not work. It is a diesel with approx. 5000 Hrs. 8kw
When I took over leadership of the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County over six years ago, I was told about this interesting event in Waterford that immediately captured my attention – the Waterford Tugboat Roundup.
When Ethan Orsino was 9 years old he began dragging small outboards from the storage rooms out into the Coeymans Landing Marine Services shop!
Truth be told, I’m basically a land-lubber: hikin’ and bikin’ and climbing up and down mountains, from the Hudson Highlands to the Alps to the Himalaya. Boots on the ground notwithstanding, I’ve always felt very natural in boats: able to read, and “feel”, the boat, the water, the current, and the waves.
The Cortlandt Yacht Club is a premier boat club located on the Hudson in Montrose, New York. It is unique in that it offers individuals ownership. They have the capacity for one hundred owners and currently ownership is available for a limited number of members.
Newport Exhibition Group, owners and producers of the Newport International Boat Show, announced today the 2017 Education Series for this year’s Boat Show. Greatly expanding on past offerings, the Newport International Boat Show will host in-water courses, seminars and demonstrations, giving showgoers plenty to look forward to beyond the excitement of new boats and boating gear
There is no more interesting character than “Dallas” whom I have featured on the cover for September.
Back in 2005, Dallas began his quest to build a raft, out of the most impossible junk you have ever seen, and float it down the Hudson River to New York City. As I looked into all this nonsense and saw the following that he had developed, I began to realize that this was more than just adventure.
Manhattan was melting on a mid July morning and I was escaping to the cool water and breezes of Sandy Hook National Park.
It was an easy, ten-minute walk from Grand Central Terminal to the Seastreak Pier at 34th St on the East River. There I caught the ferry at 8:45 AM, which got me the early bird special. The rate was thirty dollars round trip. Later trips from the same location cost forty six dollars round trip. Children under 5 ride free and fewer than 12 at reduced rates.
