On a beautiful day in August, the first annual Catfish Chaos Contest for the largest catfish by weight was held. The overall winner was Matt Reilly, of Verplanck, NY with a 10 lb 5 oz White Catfish, (which unofficially tied he NYS record), caught in Haverstraw Bay. (All fish weighed in were release alive after weigh in)
Long overdue by anyone who knows of the tremendous amount of work that he has done on behalf of the ENYMTA and the Great Upstate Boat Show, Roger Phinney devoted a tremendous amount of talent, enthusiasm and time over the past 15 years to bring the Eastern New York Marine Trades Association to the powerful Marine
Trades group that it is today.
At this year’s Roundup, we gathered money for the Salvation Army who had their bucket set up in front of the Visitor’s Center and we were proud to help, even in that small way for their efforts in disaster relief. The tugboat event itself was fantastic with some of the best weather we’ve ever seen. Boats along the wall hailed from a huge area - Boston to Detroit, Montreal to the Jersey shore.
The Schuyler Yacht Basin, long a popular stop for downstate boaters on the way to Lake Champlain as well as Saratoga’s Harbor for those interested in a side trip to the Track, is slated for some big changes next year. A locallyowned 5 star restaurant, enhanced facilities, and a stronger connection to area attractions via ridesharing are just some of the features planned for 2018.
Offhand I can think of two classic New York State “cruise” boat trips of the caliber that should be in Patricia Shultz’s 1,000 PLACES TO SEE BEFORE YOU DIE: the Maid of the Mist trip up to Niagara Falls in the farthest western corner of the state, and, just about in the farthest southeastern corner of the state, the Circle Line cruise around Manhattan.
The tremendous changes that are taking place in the outboard engine market are dramatic indeed!
Most significant, is that the two stroke engine, long thought of as fading away from the modern development of outboards, is stronger than ever with the latest features of the Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboards.
Every once in a while a unique residence comes on the market that is perfect for someone, or a couple that is looking for: A home facing east, with access to the water, in a quiet neighborhood, as well as mass transit nearby to get you anywhere you wish to go.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those, both members and spouses, who participated in the preparation and execution of the most successful River Day to date. In spite of the Elliott Way construction and competing events such as the Town of Cortlandt “Family Fun Day”, we realized the best attended event since its inception nine years ago.
The 2nd Annual Schuylerville Fall Festival: “Turning Leaves at the Turning Point”, will be held on Sunday, October 8 from 12:00-5:00 pm. Visitors are invited to this beautiful, historic, thriving downtown to experience the fun and excitement of this close-knit community. There will be a scavenger hunt for participants to follow to encourage them to visit their local businesses and engage with the business owners. Along the way you can enjoy street musicians and delicious local food vendors. Restaurants and store fronts will be open, and artists will be demonstrating their skills. Boaters are encouraged to dock at the Schuyler Yacht Basin for the weekend and enjoy
the shoreside events as well!
