Historic Hudson Valley Recipes

Written by

Vicky and I have dedicated this holiday issue to HAMILTON, now playing on Broadway. It took my breath away. Never before has a musical grabbed me by the throat and carried me, on the edge of my seat, to the very end. It’s brilliance in storytelling and it’s beauty of expression are only part of the musical’s genius in sharing with the world the story of an incredible man who effected change in our country. His ideas and ideals not only hold up today but can speak to and are relatable, on some level, to everybody.....READ FULL ARTICLE

Own a Retirement Account? Keep Your Beneficiary Designations Up to Date

When we complete an application to establish a retirement account for ourselves, we specify one or more individuals or charitable organizations to inherit our account when we’re gone, and typically don’t think about it again. As life circumstances change for ourselves or our loved ones, we might want to review our beneficiary designations; this article may help with this process. AFS.......READ FULL ARTICLE

BOAT TALK WITH with Alex - August 2016

Written by

Q: Hi Alex, I own a 2007 Yamaha waverunner and it is is hard to start. I charged up the battery and the battery will last a few turns and then the whole things dies. I bought a new battery, and everything. I think the waverunner has a dead short somewhere, yet it ran great when I put it away last year! I’ll drop it off at your shop today to see what I find.

Alex: After checking out his waverunner, here is what we found. First, all new batteries come dry, that is you need to fill the cells with electrolyte after you buy the battery and get it into the waverunner......READ FULL ARTICLE

Written by

by Ralph J. Ferrusi

The 150 miles or so of the Hudson from Manhattan to Albany isn’t exactly jam-packed with islands. As I figure - relying mostly on my trusty 2011 DeLorme New York Atlas & Gazetteer - there are about 20: some very well-known, others “Heh???” Let’s have some fun with this:

FIELD GOODS A Unique, One Of A Kind Company!

Written by

by John H. Vargo, Publisher

(This concept is increasing the value of local farms)

When I was five or six years old, during World War Two, there was a junk man with a horse and wagon as well as vegetable wagon also pulled by a horse that visited our street once a week. Each had a regular route they made and they always stopped at my grandmother’s house. I never realized until much later that it was grandfather’s homemade wine that was the main attraction for stopping at my grandparent’s popular home. Today the modern version of the junk man is everywhere. However most interesting is how the vegetable wagon has changed into a company call FieldGoods

A Turning Point!

Written by

by John H. Vargo, Publisher

The Hudson River Valley has changed dramatically over the last one hundred years. Many of us older folks have seen areas go from farms to suburbs in a few years! The area described below is one area that has not changed and is exceptional! To me it spells opportunity for the right individuals. The location is Flats Road, Coxsackie, NY. It is timeless and beautiful in the multitude of farms that front on this road. With its 10 or more farms, most of them for sale, this is an area that is dramatically going to change or could stay as farmland. The farms are of varying sizes, and can fit, into different economic buyers.
