The Hudson River ides a d currents travel i a circle in
n River, Haverstraw Bay!
Haverstraw Bay, at Stony Point on the west side and
Verplanck on the east and going south for five miles to
Croton Point on the east side is a huge body of water
unique to the Hudson River!
Except for the official channel, (water depth 35 feet), the
“bay” is only 15 feet to 25 feet in depth and flat smooth,
excepting for minor fluctuations. On a given day the
tides travel in a counter clockwise directio in on ne
side and out on the other. The incoming tide first comes
in on the east side of the river travels up to the head of
the bay at Stony Point and comes down the other side all
the way to Rockland Light, opposite Croton Point.
Sail boaters, knowing this fact, can get the edge on com-
petition knowing this amazing fact.
