ing by declaring it an outstanding
source of recreation and a way to
generate additional income to local
businesses.
The HRFA is proposing that the var-
ious striped bass fishing contests
held in the spring of 2014 have
as part of its program a children’s
fishing contest. This contest would
be centrally controlled by the
HRFA with prizes, promotion and
expertise provided by the HRFA to
the committee that is running the
Striped Bass Fishing Derby.
This contest would be focused on
catfish. the length of the catfish
would determine the winners with
a first second and third prize of
500, 250 and 100 savings bonds
awarded to the overall winners.
There will also be multiple prizes
awarded at each individual con-
test provided in the form of fishing
tackle.
The first 2014 Striped Bass Fishing
Derby to do this will be the HRFA
Striped Bass Fishing Derby held on
April 26th and 27th 2014. During
this two day event, there will be a
Catfish Fishing Derby coinciding
with the HRFA Striped Bass Fishing
Derby. Children will be encour-
aged to join the Catfish Fishing
Contest. Entrance fee will be $5.00
an each child must be accompa-
nied by an adult!
It is really the rules of these con-
tests that would generate the much
needed enthusiasm that is not
showing in traditional striped bass
fishing derbies that makes this
actually help bring new blood into
fishing on the Hudson River.
1. All youngsters that sign up for
the contests would be required
to fish with a responsible adult
whether from shore or boat.
2. Each child would be required to
pay a $5.00 fee to join the contest.
3. The parent or guardian would
not be required to join the Striped
bass fishing derbies but can cer-
tainly have the youth anglers fish-
ing for catfish while they fish the
striper contest if they decide to fish
those derbies.
4. Schools and other groups that
might like to join the either one
day or two day event would have
special discounts for joining in the
fun.
We are formulating plans during
the winter months fro these spring
contests. We would love to hear
from anyone that believes that this
idea is a good one and can be en-
hanced in one way or another. Con-
