ing been so before), at a time
when, coincidentally, the Town
has decided it wants to raze
the building. The OBCC build-
ing has never experienced this
level of attention from the Town
Board in years prior. As devel-
opment is slated to go up all
along the Ossining waterfront,
and as close as next door to
OBCC in the form of Ginsburg’s
188-unit Harbor Square project,
it is difficult not to draw certain
conclusions from the manner in
which these events have played
out over the past three months.
While this matter has been por-
trayed by the Town as a feasibil-
ity study, the only option that is
being explored is that of demo-
lition. Preservation has never
even been discussed. What this
actually feels like is an arbitrary,
deliberate, and calculated at-
tack on a volunteer organization
that has peacefully and happily
supported this community for
almost a century without issue
from Ossining’s political lead-
ers, until now.”
We must begin by saving these
wonderful and iconic institu-
tions and the buildings that
house them. That, or simply give
up and watch as the traditions
we cherish and the river which
we hold so dear vanish from our
grasp, piece by piece.
This invaluable piece of Hudson
River is the home of Ossining’s
history, traditions, and of the
memories of the people who
have been held by OBCC’s
strong walls and strong spirit.
Do not let the stories of those
generations long before us and
those to come after become
forever lost.
OBCC is reaching out to both
the local and the boating com-
munity in the hopes that they
will recognize and support the
importance of keeping alive for
future generations the values and
traditions that the Ossining Boat
an Canoe Club represent, not
only to our waterfront, but to all
people. For more information or
