My love affair with a sweet
spot on the Hudson about a mile
south of the GWBridge, now
called the Edgewater Municipal
Marina started close to 40 years
ago. Right from the docks on a
clear day you can see Yonkers
to the north and the Verranzano
Bridge to the south.. It all started
for me in 1975 when my wife and
I bought a 42 foot Matthews live
aboard cruiser from Gren Rich-
mond. It was then called Rich-
mond Marina, a full service Chris
Craft dealer in that same location
at the junction of River Road and
Route 5 in Edgewater N.J. Gren
was a bit intolerant of screw-ups
but always ready to help you learn
and fix whatever you messed up.
We stayed till we got our sea legs
and then left for a couple of years
to a marina with year round live
aboards. The call of Edgewater
was strong and we were back
in1978 for the next seven years
to stay aboard during the season
